Acton Ford has been awarded the electric and plug in hybrid franchise by Ford Motor Company. What does this mean? This exciting news means that along with selling the Ford Focus Electric, Ford Fusion Energi and the Ford C-Max Energi, the company also already has two vehicle charging stations on site and will be undergoing a comprehensive building energy audit. You still may be wondering what all this means. Read on…

One subject on the minds of many today is how to save money on fuel. Gas prices may fluctuate daily. But one thing is certain, the more energy efficient your vehicle is, the more you will save at the pump. I bet you like the sound of that. One way to save a lot at the pump is by driving a plug in hybrid vehicle. But what about comfort? Convenience? Cargo space? Saving money at the pump is a plus, but we also spend a lot of time in our vehicles, so creature comforts are of great importance. Is it possible to find a vehicle that includes all of the above, and is environmentally friendly? It is possible.

Introducing the Ford C-Max Energi Plug-In Hybrid.

The C-Max Energi may look like any other compact car on the market. But the big difference is with the interior and under the hood. I like to think of it as the little car with big features. From more 2 extra inches of head room, more leg room in the back than the Focus, and more cargo space, the Energi has many of the creature comforts important to today’s savvy consumer.

Other features that come standard on the Energi are:

• 120-volt convenience charging cord  (120 or 240 volt capable)
• Active park assist
• Audio system from Sony® with 9 speakers
• Cargo area cover
• Forward Sensing System
• Hands-free power lift-gate
• HD Radio™
• Intelligent Access with push-button start
• MyFord Mobile smart-phone app and website
• Next-generation SmartGauge with EcoGuide configurable dual LCD instrument clusters with unique plug-in hybrid driving screens
• Rear view camera
• Reverse Sensing System
• SiriusXM Satellite Radio
• SYNC with MyFord Touch
• Voice-activated Navigation System with SiriusXM Traffic and SiriusXM Travel Link

What about the “Green” features?

• 3.3-kW on-board charger
• 88-kW electric traction motor
• All-new 2.0L Atkinson-cycle I-4 engine
• Charge port light ring (SAE J1772 connection, 120- or 240-volt capable)
• Electric generator motor
• Electric power-assisted steering (EPAS) with pull-drift compensation and active nibble control
• Electronically controlled continuously variable transmission (eCVT)
– Grade assist
• Lithium-ion battery
• Regenerative Braking System with Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS)
• Torque Vectoring Control

All of these key features are put together in a comfortable 4 door hatchback that not only saves money at the pump by driving green, but also handles well making driving a pleasure.

This sounds pretty good, right? But you may still have some questions.

What is a plug in hybrid?

A plug in hybrid is a vehicle that uses a gasoline engine in conjunction with or independently of an electric motor. The plug in hybrid is charged on a 120 Volt cord or 240v charging station, allowing customers to use electricity to charge the hybrid vehicle’s electric battery. Once the battery power is fully utilized, the batteries may also be recharged through the capture of braking energy under gasoline or electric power.

How long does it take to fully charge the C-Max Energi?

The C-Max Energi allows for 120 and 240 volt charging. A 120-volt convenience cord is standard with the Energi. It takes approximately 7 hours to fully charge at 120 volts. Another option is the 240-volt Home Charging Station. The Station is portable and can be plugged into a 240-volt outlet. A full charge at 240-volts takes about 2.5 hours. This Home Charging Station is offered through a collaboration between Ford and Best Buy.
How long can the C-Max Energi travel strictly on electrical power?

The Energi can travel up to 21 miles in EV (all-electric) mode.

Does the C-Max energi also run on gas?

Yes. The Energi can operate on the gasoline engine or the electric traction motor. When the lithium-ion battery has been drained, or certain other conditions have been met, the Energi will switch over to hybrid operation using the gasoline engine, working separately, or with the electric motor for optimal fuel efficency.

Can I charge it at home?

Yes. Ford has partnered with Best Buy to offer the option to install a 240-volt Home Charging Station in your home for the convenience of home charging.

What are the state and federal tax incentives for purchasing a hybrid in Massachusetts?

Some consumers in the US are eligible to receive $3,750 of federal tax credits for buying the C-Max Energi (Nearly $1250 more in credits than the Toyota Prius Plug In). There may be additional tax credits available in the state of Massachusetts. Please check with a qualified accountant for further information. Also, for more information, visit
How does maintenance differ on this vehicle versus another?

Any vehicle operating in hybrid or electric mode will, by it’s very nature, put less wear and tear on the traditional engine parts than with a solely gas powered engine. This can mean less repair costs down the road.  From a maintenance standpoint, the C-Max Energi is equipped with an intelligent oil life monitor that monitors engine use, idle time and other factors to determine when maintenance is required. As with many hybrid vehicles, the regenerative braking systems can also equate to longer brake life, depending on driving habits. The electrical motor and lithium-ion batter are very specialized systems that require trained Ford technicians to service them.

How much does the C-Max Energi Cost?

The 2013 C-Max Energi has a starting cost of $25,200 MSRP.

How many miles per gallon does the C-Max Energi get?

The C-Max Energi is rated for 100 combined MPGe (Miles Per Gallon Equivilant), with an average of 108 MPGe city/92 MPGe highway. MPGe is the equivalent measure of gasoline fuel efficiency for electric mode operation.

When will the C-Max Energi be available at Acton Ford?

The 2013 C-Max Energi is available for retail order through Acton Ford now. Stock models will be available shortly. Please contact the Acton Ford for more information.
